APRIL, 4th 2014: FUTURES 2013 RATING BY WINE SPECTATOR

"CHÂTEAU FONPLÉGADE St.-Emilion 2013 Score: 89–92

Solid, offering a core of plum paste and blackberry preserves, lined with anise, apple wood and fruitcake details. Shows good stuffing for the vintage while maintaining a fresh, almost crunchy profile. — James Molesworth, Wine Spectator"

NEAL MARTIN RATINGS FOR 2013 FUTURES

Château Fonplégade, Saint-Emilion 2013: 89-91

The Fonplégade has a pleasing spicy blackberry and wild raspberry nose, the oak nicely integrated. The palate is medium‐bodied with supple tannins. There is good density and structure here, a little forced on the entry but there is a fine line of acidity. This has good potential, but may need some time in bottle. Tasted April 2014.

JAMES SUCKLING COMMENTS 2013 FUTURES

"Château Fonplégade, Saint- Emilion 2013:  89-90

A pretty core of dark fruit and walnut character here. Full to medium body with round tannins and a medium finish. Very well crafted."

"Château L’Enclos, Pomerol 2013:  90-91
Impressive for the vintage with chocolate, berry and hints of walnut character.
Medium to full body with velvety tannins and a polished texture."

GAULT & MILLAU FRENCH MAGAZINE ON FUTURES 2012

« Château Fonplégade, Saint-Emilion, Grand cru classé, red 2012, 17/20
A beautifully-concentrated wine with a juicy fruit, round and mineral—maybe even salty—thanks to the stems that were selected and added during the winemaking process. A really good choice in regard to its precise, straightforward, and inviting result.»

« Fleur de Fonplégade, Saint-Emilion, Grand cru classé, red 2012, 15,5/20
It is so savory and ripe that it resembles a delicious Syrah in the mouth, with a finish reminiscent of that of a Pinot. Charm, sensuality, and finesse, therefore, can be attributed to this second wine of a very good quality.»

NEAL MARTIN COMMENTS FUTURES 2012

Please find Neal Martin’s ratings for the Wine Advocate :

« 2012 Chateau Fonplégade : 90-92/100
The Fonplégade 2012 has a lovely ripe, pure, floral bouquet with copious dark cherry and blueberry fruit that retains grace and elegance. The palate is ripe and decadent on the entry with layers of toasty ripe fruit, but it retains sufficient acidity to keep everything in balance and there finish is cohesive and long. Very fine. Tasted April 2013. »

« 2012 Chateau L’Enclos 90-92/100
The L’Enclos 2012 has a rounded, sensual bouquet that is very inviting, hints of cassis fruit mixed with dark plum and blueberry. The palate is medium-bodied with grippy ripe tannins. There is fine harmony on this L’Enclos, tight-fisted at the moment on the finish, but it offers the weight and persistency to suggest it will blossom after bottling. This is one to watch from this fast-improving Pomerol cru under talented Jean-Christophe Meyrou. Tasted April 2013. »

ROBERT PARKER : 91-93 FOR CHATEAU FONPLEGADE 2012!

Château Fonplégade 2012 :
« The 2012 Fonplegade, a major success for the vintage, possesses a dense purple color along with sweet blueberry, black raspberry and crushed chalk-like notes intermixed with a hint of spring flowers. Sweet tannins, a medium to full-bodied mouthfeel, and excellent fruit, texture, opulence and richness suggest it will drink well for 12-15 years. 91-93/100 »

Château l’Enclos 2012 :
« The deep ruby/plum/purple 2012 l’Enclos offers wonderful notes of mocha, espresso bean and jammy black currants and black cherries. Medium to full-bodied, supple-textured, fleshy and succulent, this hedonistic and intellectual turn-on can be enjoyed over the next 10-12 years. This is a sleeper of the vintage. Bravo! 89-91/100 »

QUINTESSENCE SMALL BARREL

As a follow up to our partnership with the acclaimed Quintessence cooperage to create the premium “Fleur de Quintessence” barrel, the company presented us with a very special small-format barrel to celebrate our partnership. Small barrels are remarkably difficult to craft, and this one-of-a-kind barrel is equivalent to only 80 bottles. In honor of his 20th harvest, Franck had the idea to fill it  with a blend of the best lots from the 2012 vintage, and present it as a gift to Mrs. & Mr. Adams! Since its arrival, this barrel has been a source of great interest to guests, further enriching our tour experience.

ROBERT PARKER : CHATEAU FONPLEGADE 2010 RATED 94+ !

“2010 Fonplégade: 94+/100
Concentrated black fruits intermixed with spring flowers, some high class, subtle toasty oak, graphite and a touch of blackberry and cassis all jump from the glass of this dense, full-bodied, formidably endowed, massive wine. It needs a good 5-7 years of cellaring. This could turn out to be one of the longest-lived wines ever made at Fonplégade, lasting 25-30 or more years. This is an absolutely brilliant wine, and probably the best to date from this American-owned Chateau, which has been completely renovated and is now enjoying a resurrection/renaissance in quality. Drink 2018 - 2048.”
Robert Parker, Wine Advocate # 205 (Feb 2013)
